The screenplay is written by Anthony Jaswinski (of Vanishing on 7th Street). The Shallows is directed by Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra, of the movies Run All Night, Non-Stop, Unknown, Orphan and House of Wax previously. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills.
